Giffnock’s greats

The squash section of Giffnock Tennis, Squash and Hockey Club are celebrating their most successful season ever.

The squash section were presented with all of the major prizes at a recent West of Scotland presentation dinner.

They were also voted west club of the year for the third time in four years.

And to top it off, Kevin Moran, Giffnock’s number one player, was voted west senior player of the year — while Patrick O’Sullivan, Giffnock’s top junior and Scotland under 17 champion, was voted west junior player of the year.

Giffnock’s first team won the West First Division and were presented with the very unusual annual award — a double-handed, engraved sword.

The fourth and sixth teamsa also gained promotion to higher leagues this year.

Six Giffnock juniors: Patrick O’Sullivan, Mark Coyle, Jonathan Brady (team one), Chris Murphy, Joseph O’Sullivan and Daniel O’Sullivan (team two) played against each other for St Ninian’s in the final of the Scottish Schools Squash Competition with team one winning.

Along with these juniors, seven others joined them to represent the West of Scotland at the end of season iinter-regionals: Hamish Buchanan, Adam Hunter, Oonagh O’Sullivan, Craig Thomson, Harry Anderson, Albeer Mehmood and Alex Ross.
