Glasgow City finish the Scottish Women’s Premier League as Champions and 17 points clear thanks to a 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the Granite City.

In a game where City had nothing to play for, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black was pleased with the win. He said, “Considering the League title has been done and dusted we were going to Aberdeen with little motivation.

It was a very heavy pitch which made passing difficult for both teams. That said I thought we controlled the game, controlled possession of the ball and managed to return with the win and finish the season 17 points clear. We can now look forward to our massive Champions League last 16 home and away tie against FC Zurich.”

City took the lead after only 2 minutes when defender Julie Nelson headed home a Fiona Brown corner. Aberdeen got back into the game in the second half after Marlijn Hermans got on the end of a free kick to fire past Lee Alexander in the City nets.

Most pleasing for the Champions, was the return to action of Captain Leanne Ross. After having been out injured since the start of August, Ross came on with 17 minutes remaining and hit the winner from 30 yards with 7 minutes of normal time left to mark a brilliant come back.

Glasgow City now prepare for their last 16 Champions League game against FC Zurich on Sunday 9th November. The team fly out to Zurich on Friday and will play the return leg on Wednesday 12th November at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium, 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale via www.glasgowcityfc.co.uk and are priced only £5 adults, £2 kids.
