Glens should have won this game in the first half when they had 80 per cent territorial advantage and had opportunities to score several tries - thwarted only by desperate defending by the visitors.

It took 20 minutes for Glens to score through a break by Murrell and touch down by veteran prop O’Dogherty, converted by Thomson.

Glens continued to pressurise, particularly through their forwards who dominated the scrum and shared the lineout honours but could not breach the visiting defence before half time.

A minute into the restart another break by Murrell set up a try for McKeown who evaded several defensive attempts to stop him. Again, Thomson converted.

The pattern of the game then changed and Kilmarnock took on the attacking role and scored good back tries through McWhirter and Brown but with the conversion attempts failing.

Then, 15 minutes from time, Brown kicked a penalty for the visitors setting up a very tense conclusion to the game. Kilmarnock pressed hard and it was Glens turn to desperately defend their line.

This was a good win for the home side and play the Ayrshire team again on May 3, for the final game of the season.

Glens are at home this Saturday to Annan for the last home game of the season.
