Glenzie bounced back from last week’s disappointment in the Cup with an emphatic win over Irvine.

The visitors were four tries up within 20 minutes thanks to Lennox, McGonigle and two from Burns.

Glenzie seemed to be cruising and were given a sharp reminder not to be complacent when the Irvine No10 found a hole in their slack defence and opened the scoring for the home side.

Directly from the restart McMillan gathered the ball and set off on a surging run, releasing the perfect pass for Buonaccorsi to run in a score.

Just before half time Paul ripped the ball from Irvine, following a scrum on their own five metre line, and powered over the line. The half time score was 7-36.

Into the second half and Glenzie continued to pound the Irvine defence.

Burns added his third and MacKay scored his first with a delicious interception in his own twenty two running the length of the pitch to dot down between the posts.

A moment of ball watching at the restart allowed Irvine in for their second try of the day as the Glenzie players appeared to be rooted to the spot.

Glenzie finished the game well and showed some great continuity of play with tries for Muir, Allan and a second for MacKay rounding off the scoring.

Despite the impressive score line Glenzie’s handling, on a dry day, should have been much better.

That, and the lapses in concentration which allowed the home team to score, need to be addressed before the next round on March 16.
