Golden girl’s success
A talented teenage swimmer has triumphed at an open water swimming event in Aberfoyle, shortly after returning from an elite competition in Canada.
Cumbernauld Swimming Club member Lucy McGhee (14) of Annathill struck gold in the two kilometre distance race at the West District Open Water Swimming Championships at Loch Ard.
Lucy who attends St Andrew’s High School in Coatbridge had just represented North Lanarkshire in the 2013 International Childrens’ Games in Ontario where she progressed to the A final of the 200 metres backstroke.
Proud dad Joe said: ‘‘Lucy exceeded expectations by beating more experience swimmers in her first non-wetsuit open water swim.’’
