Woods finds himself some way off the pace going into day two after bogeying the first two holes of his round on his way to an eventual +4.

It has cut him well adrift of the leading pack, some of whom have a double figure advantage over the former world number one.

But Tiger reckons the tables could turn tomorrow if the expected downpour arrives - and plans on using every ounce of his links course experience to haul himself back into contention.

“I’m so far back at the moment that to get back in there by Sunday I’m going to have to put together some pretty solid rounds,” he said.

“I need to look at what John Daly did here back in 95 and hit the same solid rounds in difficult conditions.

“Hopefully the conditions will be tough tomorrow and I can put together a good round and be a little more aggressive.

“I need to draw a line under today.”
