Haq rues missed opportunity against Pakistan

NOT a single match was completed — or even started — in the weekend’s Cricket Scotland league because of weather.

However, on Friday, Clydesdale captain Majid Haq, Scotland’s most-capped internationalist, was on duty in Edinburgh in a One-Day International against Pakistan.

Haq dismissed half of Pakistan’s top six batsmen as the visitors were restricted to a total 231 from their 50 overs. It was a target within Scotland’s reach, giving them the best prospect of a first-ever victory over a Test-playing nation.

Pakistan’s Misbah ul-Haq, top-scored with an undefeated innings of 84, rescuing his team from humiliation.

Scotland slumped to a 96-run defeat at the hands of the Pakistani bowlers.

“It was one of the worst batting displays I can remember,” said Haq. “We were in with a chance after our field effort.”

Sunday’s second game against Pakistan was abandoned.
