High School hockey girls have success handed to them on a plate after tournament victory

A girls' hockey team made up mainly of players from Milngavie and Bearsden have won the BP Schools Hockey Plate.

The High School of Glasgow lifted the trophy, played annually between schools in the west of Scotland, by beating Glasgow Academy 1-0 in the final.

School girls captain and hockey team captain Iona MacKillop scored the winner and later praised the team’s performance in winning an exceptionally competitive match in very windy and wet weather.

Last October, the High School of Glasgow’s 1st Hockey X1 reached the finals of the 2015 Top Flight Nations Hockey Tournament, against the best school teams from Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. They finished fourth overall, after losing to Rainey Endowed School (Northern Ireland) in the semi and to George Heriot’s School (Edinburgh) in the third-fourth place play-off.
