“I’ve been involved with gymnastics from the age of five and training intensely for the Games for the past two years.

“There has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears: however, to be recognised for all my hard work makes it all worthwhile.”

Amy was determined to be fit for the Games after sustaining an injury earlier in the year.

The athlete continued: “I had an injury in February and really thought it was game over; but with the support of my coach — and of course my mum — I recovered and quickly got back on track.

“I’m really proud of my achievements and can’t wait for the Games to begin so I can do well for my mum and my country.”

In something of a coup, half of the 10 gymnasts for Team Scotland have been selected from the City of Glasgow Gymnastic Club.

Head coach Rod Smith said he was “absolutely delighted”.
