Jack (14), of Greenfield Road, secured his fourth successive West District title in Ashgill this month thanks to a comprehensive points victory over Irish lad Shane Allan in the 65kg final.

“I went for Shane right from the first round,” Jack said.

“I cut his lip and burst his nose in the first couple of rounds and ended up winning unanimously on points after three rounds.

“It’s really big for me to win the title four years in a row at four different weights.

“My confidence was low before the bout because I’d lost my previous fight, so beating Shane was the best feeling ever.”

And Jack’s morale was boosted even further when he discovered that his fellow Carluke High School pupils had nominated him to carry the baton for 200m during the pre-Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay, in Clydebank this June.
