Joy in Junior Cup for Lesmahagow and a big win for Biggar Rugby

THE resignation of Forth player-manager Chris McGroarty has overshadowed a number of excellent results involving Clydesdale’s football and rugby sides.

McGroarty’s Forth side were denied a replay in the final few seconds of their Scottish Junior Cup second clash against Dyce with Forth committee man Ian Robertson lamenting a series of missed opportunities.

Meanwhile Lesmahagow boss Robert Irving praised the red-hot Johnny Logan as the striker scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 demolition of Lochore to progress into the third round.

“Johnny has been exceptional for us this season,” said Robert. “That’s nine goals in seven games and he is one of the unsung heroes of the team.

“He goes about his business in the right manner and we are lucky to have him at the club.”

Despite a spirited performance, Carluke Rovers were also knocked out of the cup losing 2-1 at home to Troon but Lanark United picked up their first points of their league campaign with an impressive 5-2 win over Ashfield.

United boss John Brogan said: “I was absolutely delighted; all the players had a terrific attitude and although we lost two stupid goals in the first half they didn’t feel sorry for themselves and were so dominant in the second half.”

Our rugby sides are also on good runs of form with Biggar beating Aberdeen Grammar 27-17 in National League 1 for their second win in three games.

And Lanark made it two wins out of two with a 15-9 win against Arran thanks to five penalties from Andrew Angus.
