Juniors at Broadwood?

A successful Cumbernauld club who received the SFA highest honour for promoting grassroots football has begun the process of creating a junior side.

Cumbernauld Colts, who were recently awarded the SFA Legacy award, announced this week they plan to form a junior side for the next season.

The decision from the Broadwood-based club comes after Clyde FC announced they would be looking for a new home.

A spokesman for the Cumbernauld Colts said: “Colts plans to form a junior side will take a huge step forward next season.

“With Clyde announcing their departure from the town, the club are laying the path to move into the junior ranks within two seasons, and with the Scottish FA seeking to implement a pyramid system into the professional structure, who knows what lies ahead.”

The spokesman added: “The club has just completed their first year at their new Broadwood home which provides the infrastructure to deliver the clubs ambitions.

“This seasons U21’s will step up to the amateur ranks playing on a Saturday afternoon in the prestigious Caladonian League and last seasons U19’s will move to U21’s within the West of Scotland league.

“The amateur side are looking to strengthen their squad as they step up to this new challenge and are looking for experienced players.”

Ex professional youth, junior or amateurs interested in joining the regions premier club, should contact Richard McKenzie on 07807233671 to arrange a trial.

The club say the backbone of this side will go on to form the junior side in due course.
