Kids encouraged to enter Cumbernauld races

Kids who feel inspired by the Commonwealth Games medal winning performance of local athlete Eilidh Child can enter their very own race next month.

On Sunday, September 21 at Broadwood Stadium there will be 1K and 3K children’s races held in conjunction with the annual Cumbernauld 10K for athletes aged 16 plus.

The 1K is open to children in Primary 5-7 while the 3K is for pupils in S1 to S4.

Places can be booked by visiting www.1-buster.co.uk or call in person at Broadwood or Ravenscraig Sports Centres.

The races are organised by North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Leisure, alongside NHS Lanarkshire and Campsies Centres (Cumbernauld) Ltd. Sponsors include Strathmore Spring Water and the Cumbernauld News and Kilsyth Chronicle.

Councillor Allan Graham, chairman of Campsies Centres (Cumbernauld) Ltd, said: “Part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow was to inspire more children to take up sport, and if local kids want to try athletics the 1K and 3K races are ideal.

“The whole event is aimed at families, with events for all ages as well as family fun throughout the morning,
