Kirkintilloch Muay Thai fighter is heading for the top

Jordan Cumberton (19), from Kirkintilloch, has won all nine of his fights since turning professional – two by way of knock out.

This Saturday, April 25, he will be fighting alongside some of the top names in the sport in the biggest event of the year – the Power of Scotland tournament at the Lagoon Arena in Paisley.

The former Lenzie Academy pupil is currently studying psychology at Strathclyde University, but is dedicated to achieving success in Muay Thai.

To achieve his goal he has travelled to Thailand for four weeks during his summer break from university for the past two years to train in one of their top gyms.

He also has the backing of trainer Gary O’Brien, who has trained some of the top fighters in the sport.

O’Brien said: “Jordan has huge potential.”

“Although he is still only 22-years-old, he is already Scotland’s biggest name in the sport.

“Jordan is very talented and has natural knockout power that you just can’t teach, however, that isn’t why I believe he will go to the top.

“His biggest attribute is his hunger and work ethic, I often have to tell him to rest, he was even thinking about changing his university course to facilitate his training.”
