Leading flat trainer Johnston was celebrating as the 9/2 shot, ridden by Kevin Stott, crossed the line ahead of Satanic Beat with Linguine in third.

Clydesdale’s best hope, favourite Wee Frankie, of Keith Dalgleish’s Belstane Racing Stables, could only finish fifth.

Despite the Silver Bell disappointment, Belstane Stables trainer Keith Dalgleish did have one winner on the night as 8/1 shot Live Dangerously, ridden by Tom Eaves, won the final race of the evening – The Jordan Electrics Handicap.

There were also wins for White Vin Jan, ridden by Louis Steward, in the Ladbrokes Nursery Handicap and 9/4 favourite Bearskin in the Tough Construction 40th Anniversary Handicap.

Jockey Phillip Makin did a terrific job guiding 11/4 favourite Red Pike to victory in the Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap and there was a shock in the Scullion Law Open Stakes as rank outsider Mistiroc won.

The 33/1 shot’s triumph would have been a little victory for the bookmakers who took a pasting for most of the evening with three favourites winning out of six.
