Lanark United enjoy Blackpool trip

ALMOST a year after joining the crowd at Bloomfield Road to watch Blackpool thrashing Burnley 4-1 in a Championship football match, the players and coaching staff of local team Lanark Thistle 99s are looking forward to another visit to Lancashire on Saturday, April 27.

The Thistle lads will take on Blackpool FC’s academy team in a special challenge match, before later returning to Bloomfield Road to watch the Blackpool-Derby Championship game.

Thistle 99s coach Andy Romer (44) admitted that last year’s trip to Blackpool was “a jolly up” which included a visit to the world-famous Pleasure Beach amusement park, but he stressed that this certainly wouldn’t be the case this time around.

“We are very excited about going down to play this game,” Andy said.

“There was never any doubt about us accepting this invitation because – while we can return to the Pleasure Beach any time we want – we might never get the chance to play a game like this again.”
