largs get the needle

Pollok picked up three league points after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Largs Thistle at Barrfields Stadium.

‘Lok wasted no time in making their mark, taking an eighth minute lead. Tam Hanlon’s cross from the right-hand side was headed on by John Sweeney into the path of Davie Winters who tapped home at the back post.

The lead was extended three minutes later, Kieran McAleenan passing a free-kick low into the bottom corner of the net.

The homesters pulled a goal back in the 41st minute, Gary Fleming’s drive from 25 yards deflecting past debutant Pollok ‘keeper Ryan Ward.

‘Lok were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute when Mark McLennan was sent to the pavilion for his petulant reaction to Thistle’s Scott Keogh’s gamesmanship.

Despite this numerical disadvantage Pollok hung on for the victory.

Pollok continue in League action this Saturday when they make the short trip to Neilston. Kick off time at Brig O’Lea Stadium is 2pm. The midweek games start the following Wednesday when old rivals Petershill visit Newlandsfield. Kick off for this Central League Cup tie is 6.30pm.
