The first half was very scrappy with both sides giving away possession cheaply through a mixture of handling errors, poor off loading and a multitude of penalties.

Lenzie were unlucky not to score early in the game when Nisbet was stopped short of the line.

However Cumbernauld were first on the scoreboard through the boot of Andrew Reid who took his chance well.

There was not much to separate the sides at this point and Lenzie were pleased to get the scoreboard under way when the energetic Fraser broke the home side defensive line to put Scouller in space and he linked with the supporting Carmichael to power over to score a converted try.

This completed the scoring for the first half, leaving Lenzie ahead 7-3.

Lenzie controlled the set piece throughout the second half and Cumbernauld struggled to cope with the powerful ball carrying of Slade, McKenzie, Brett and Scouller and it was no surprise when Scouller scored to a well taken try to extend the visitors’ lead.

Cumbernauld were unfortunate to lose their powerful number 8 and influential stand off to injuries and Lenzie took full advantage to score further tries through Holdstock, MacKay, Scouller and Moir with Scouller converting five out of six to complete the scoring.

Man of the match was Letford for an excellent call in the second period.

Lenzie’s coach Boyd Carswell will want his team to build on this second half performance for the game next week away at Cumnock.

Meanwhile a young Lenzie second side enjoyed an excellent 48-18 home win over Dalziel with Jackie Mcallister, Harry Scott, Jim Mainland and Alan Picken showing up well.

Man of the match was Gregor Deacon.
