Luke just keeps on running

This year’s race was run last Friday (June 20) and organisers said they had a record field of participants running.

Organised by the Bellahouston Harriers, the fast and flat two-loop course started off and finished at Cartha Rugby Club on Dumbreck Road winnding its way through Pollok Park.

The 20-year-old is rapidly rising to become a star of track and field and can normally be seen anywhere there’s a starters pistol.

The Brian Goodwin 10k is named after a runner who, sadly, died in 2007, one day after his 63rd birthday.

In his younger days back in the 1950s, Goodwin was a runner of no mean talent who had notched up some fine running times in Finland.

In 1963 he made his mark with the steeplechase, coming third in Scotland as a result.

But for many at Bellahouston Harriers he will be most loved for being a staunch member of the club for more of his career.

Now we have young Traynor who just may be the next big thing in running.

The runner, who also races for Glasgow Caledocian university, has picked up more than his fair share of accolades in recent years.

Earlier in the year, Luke won the Scottish 10,000 metre race at Hutcheson’s Track.

In a personal best of 30 minutes and 13 seconds, he had run on a wet and windy night with the cheers from younger members of Giffnock North AC ringing in his ears.

But with summer upon us, the gifted runner will turn his attentions helping to train the next generation of kids.

Along with David Clunie, Craig Armstrong, Megan Howat and other Giffnock Coaches, Luke will be leading the Giffnock Summer Camps.
