Moore debut aids 4:1 win

Queen’s were without the suspended Rooney and Wharton, while Montrose were without their suspended duo of Jonny Crawford and Craig Johnston.

With Wharton suspended, McGregor slipped in alongside Quinn at the heart of our defence.

Queen’s started brightly, winning a corner in the opening moments but the large frame of Marvin Andrews intervened as Miller swung in the cross.

Queen’s won a corner after 14 minutes but failed to capitalise on it.

Seconds later, another chance at goal and this time, it went Queen’s way, opening the scoring 1-0.

Burns decided to get in on the shooting action after 30 minutes. The shot was a belter; the save from McKenzie even better as he tipped the ball over the bar. The corner came to nothing.

33 minutes later, it was 2-0. Moore was again involved after getting on to a Fotheringham pass. Once more, he was denied a shooting opportunity; again he did the right thing, feeding the ball across to Woods who cut inside his marker and rolled the ball into the net.

We did our best as half-time approached. Firstly, McKenzie had to race off his line to deny Moore; then only the bar denied Fraser as he curled in an effort.

Muir had been a spectator for much of the game, but was given a wee shot of the ball when Mitchell passed it back.

Referee Kirkland had enjoyed a quiet afternoon so far, but had to produce a yellow when Garry Wood decked Miller after 43 minutes.

The visitors made a switch at the interval, replacing Cameron with Ross McCord. And they certainly had more of the ball in the opening exchanges.

Queen’s soon got back into their stride and Moore almost set-up Woods, but McKenzie got there in the nick of time.

Berry showed his defensive qualities as Montrose started to pose a threat, but then Queen’s failed to make the most of a break.

As the game reached its three-quarter point, there was no denying it had lost a lot of its spark.

Montrose got back into the game after 76 mintues with a goal, 2:1.

Moore eased the nerves of QP after 81 minutes taking the score to 3:1.

Four minutes from time, Mitchell produced a storming run through to Moore to make it 4-1.
