Star man, in what was a very entertaining match with a number of good races and plenty of passing, was Rene Bach who raced to two 5-1s.

The Dane was beaten once by an opponent in four races in what was his best showing since joining the club last month.

The visitors pushed hard early doors and by the halfway point the Tigers only lead by two - the Rockets’ reserves having produced a maximum in the second heat.

But Bach was among the key players, joining Richie Worrall for a 5-1 in heat three - with the duo repeating that feat in heat 10 - while Richard Lawson and Aaron Summers bagged heat advantages in 13 and 15 to ensure all three points stayed at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.

Lawson scored a paid 15-point maximum with Summers’ only dropped points coming in the final race.

The result moved Glasgow a point clear of Sheffield at the summit of the Premier League.

Bach said: “It went pretty well. I tried a different engine and it felt pretty good all day. The team did well and we got a good win.

“There are no real easy meetings this year - and I think that we are still missing Nike Lunna, who we need to be back for us.

“Coty Garcia is in the main body of the team now, so once we have a full team back we should be stronger. More meetings should make us better.”

Glasgow are in action at the Premier League Fours championship next weekend, which is held over two days at Peterborough, meaning no home match for the Tigers.

Glasgow now face a period where away wins will be needed to maintain their table topping status with four of the next five matches being away from home, starting at Berwick next Wednesday, July 27 away at Berwick.

Tigers scorers: Richard Lawson 14+1 (paid maximum), Aaron Summers 13, Richie Worrall 10+1, Rene Bach 9+2, Coty Garcia 5, Danny Ayres 2, Ellis Perks (guest) 1.

Tigers’ derby clash with Edinburgh Monarchs at Armadale on Friday was postponed due to heavy rain.
