Narrow victory for Pollok

Pollok’s first foray into the second tier of West Region Superleague football ended with a narrow 2-1 victory at Greenock’s Ravenscraig Stadium. Davie Winters broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 15th minute after he curled a free-kick into the top corner of Mark Monk’s goal.

A nice ball down the wing from Jamie Barclay set Tam Hanlon free down the wing in the 25th minute. His deep cross found Winters who teed up new signing Finlay Frye to slot into the back of the net and double the visitors advantage. The end of the opening period was marred by ‘Lok’s Graeme McLaren’s late challenge on Craig Brown, shortly followed by Nock’s Jamie McKenna’s foul on Gary Wild, both of which were deemed worthy of an early bath by arbiter David Dunne.

Greenock reduced the leeway in the 63rd minute. Kevin McKay fired in a free-kick that brought a fine diving save from Ross Harkness, alas the ball fell kindly for Darren McLachlan to bundle home. All further attempts to restore parity failed, and the ‘Lok held on for all three points.
