The main goal of the Connections Resource – launched at St Athanasius PS by Commonwealth Games hockey star Ailsa Wyllie – is to ensure nursery and P1 children in Clydesdale receive two hours a week of quality physical education.

St Athanasius head teacher Francis Farrell believes the new programme, developed in partnership with Glasgow University and the University of the West of Scotland, will be a welcome boost to pupils and teachers at every primary school in South Lanarkshire.

He said: “It’s a fantastic programme with various activities which are good for the children and indeed for the teachers.

“Various components are all geared to tackling childhood obesity levels in Scotland. We were delighted to have so many people here to launch the scheme in South Lanarkshire.”
