In the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup first round, Carluke Rovers put up a brave showing against Beith before going down 2-1 to the Superleague side.

A controversial decision by the referee robbed Lanark United of the chance of a replay against Ayrshire big guns Kilbirnie. The Moor Park side lost 3-2.

Forth Wanderers floundered against Wishaw losing 7-1 and promotion-chasing Lesmahagow could not carry their impressive league form into the cup competition losing 3-0 at Cumbernauld.

Unfortunately there was also nothing to cheer about for Biggar Rugby fans as the Hartreemill side were crushed 44-5 by Stewart’s Melville.
