Olympians stage Neil McCover half marathon

The Kirkintilloch Olympians held their third race of the season with the Neil McCover Half Marathon autumn race last Sunday.

Robert Rogerson set off 159 runners at 9am from Tom Johnston House with the Leisure Centre providing the registration and changing facilities beforehand.

Thanks go to the council and local police for their support, as well as the myriad of volunteers who made the occasion a real highlight.

Margaret McCover, whose husband Neil died in a cycle accident while chair of the Olympians, walked the entire course before the race and relayed her many grateful thanks that KO continues to remember Neil through this event.

The fastest police officer Cameron Wilson received a special prize as a part of Neil’s legacy.

The good works continued with the Junior Section selling £250 worth of superb cakes for runners sugar re-loading after the race, this goes to Teenage Cancer Trust with thanks especially to Karen Craig and Annmarie McCaffrey for organising this.

Both Tunnocks and Ghiloni’s provided additional fayre in the goody bags.
