Only way is a win

Glasgow City FC are currently prepapring for their participation in this year’s Uefa’s Women’s Champions League prior to next month’s kick off.

First up to face the Scottish champions are Slovakian team Nové Zámky on August 
9.

Glasgow manager Laura Montgomery told ExtraSport: “They are obviously in the Champions League for a reason. This is their second successive year in the competition so they will have experience of knowing what it’s all about, which will only benefit them.

“They are probably the team we know least about at the moment, but our coaching team are working hard to ensure we get as much information as possible on them before our match.”

City will, for the first time in their seven CL forays, be hosting the qualifying games.

For this they have secure the use of Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium and tickets for the matches will be £5 adult and £2 children.

Laura continued: “It is exciting to be hosting the qualifying matches for the first time and we also have a number of new signings experiencing their first Champions League campaign.

“Hopefully the Commonwealth Games spirit can continue into our matches and we can turn out to support the girls as we aim to reach the knock-out stage for the fourth successive season.”
