Law and District AAC members’ fine displays before Coronavirus lockdown

In the two weeks before the current Coronavirus lockdown, Law and District Amateur Athletics Club were busy competing, with many successes across all age groups.

Willie Drysdale (84), from Carluke, completed the 6k course in 64 minutes at the Masters Cross Country Championships in Johnstone, winning gold in the V80 category.

Wille has been a Law and District member for 45 years.

Some young Law athletes competed at the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships in Queensferry with Lanark Grammar pupil Jessie Gilchrist winning bronze in the U16 girls 4km race in a fantastic time of 16.46mins.

Fiona Currie and Jessica Inglis, also of Lanark Grammar, were 47th and 49th place respectively in a field of 147 athletes.

Meanwhile, U20 James Gillon of Carluke was competing at the British Cross Country Challenge in Loughborough, having been selected to represent the West of Scotland. James completed the 11.2k course in an awesome time of 43.50mins.

On Sunday, March 15, four Law youngsters contested the Young Athletes Road Race Championships at Battery Park in Greenock.

U13 Ryan Kellock ran a superb 9.43mins for 41st place in the 2.5K course.

U15 girls Jessie Gilchrist and Fiona Currie completed their 4km in 15.45mins and 17.31 mins respectively, in ninth and 29th place and U17 Donald Gilchrist was 14th in his 5km race.

Rich Beattie of Lanark continued his personal challenge to complete 40 events in 2020 to mark his 40th birthday.

On March 8 he ran the Inverness half marathon in 1.35.35, before Balloch half marathon on March 15 in 1.38.17. These were his eighth and ninth events of the year.
