The most dramatic contest was the fifth race – the Roucan Loch Crematorium Open Maiden Race – which saw just three horses finish after a series of falls.

Riderless horses were a common sight in a contest eventually won by Tristan Davidson on Mr Shahady.

There was concern for jockey Russell Lindsay after his horse Yu Tiger fell, causing the remaining competitors to be re-routed away from the second last fence.

Russell later received hospital treatment but his injuries were relatively minor, considering.

The biggest roar of the day probably went to former Overton winner Gunner Jack, who was powered home in the Men’s Open Race by Ed Wrigley.
