Point-to-point racing returns to Overton Farm

HORSE racing organiser Willie Young hopes he’ll still have the midas touch when it comes to laying on another exciting point-to-point fest next month.

The Overton Farm supremo is looking ahead to again staging the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry meeting at his Crossford venue on Sunday, February 8.

He said: “We’ve been very fortunate with the weather we’ve had at this event for the past six or seven years.

“Despite being held in February, it’s never once been postponed.

“I remember that poor weather very nearly put off a meeting at Overton Farm two years ago, but it went ahead and we staged the only turf racing in the whole of Britain that day.

“I wish we’d contacted Channel 4 Racing and got them to cover our meeting!”

Overton Farm has been the venue for the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry races in recent years as the regular Dumfries track has suffered waterlogging and remains unusable.
