Pollok secure quarterfinalswith 4-nil win

Pollok advanced to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup for the first time since 2009 with a 4-0 win at hosts St Andrew’s United’s Recreation Park.

The home side were on top of the territorial battle and could consider themselves unlucky to go in at half-time a goal down.

Pollok doubled their advantage in the 58th minute. A swift counter-attack led by Kevin Bradley’s driving run saw him set Winters free. He cut the ball inside for Allan MacKenzie, whose effort was blocked on the line by Kevin McMillan, only for Tam Hanlon to net the rebound.

The ‘Lok extended their lead further in the 80th minute, MacKenzie squaring to Frye, allowing the midfielder to pick his spot, rolling the ball into the bottom corner.

The scoring for the afternoon was rounded off when ‘Lok debutant Ryan McCann showed some nice trickery before teeing up substitute Jamie Barclay to crack home a beauty with the outside of his right foot.

Pollok are in cup action again this week when they host Hurlford United at Newlandsfield Park. Kick off is at 2pm.
