Queen’s at the ready

THE pre-season is drawing to a close and Queen’s Park are finally set to resume action with something on the line.

On Saturday, Ayr United will visit Hampden in the Ramsdens cup.

A new look team will turn out for the Spiders, with a number of fresh faces, including most recent signing Shaun Rooney, a former Dundee United midfielder, hoping to make an impact.

The first team squad are back from a long training weekend in the sunshine in Largs, which included training sessions and friendly games against Kilmarnock and Brechin City.

Speaking to the club website, boss Gardner Speirs said: “We always have plans to bring in experience, it’s difficult to get though. We have been fortunate in past years to manage to do that.

“We will continue looking and trying to strengthen by signing first of all good players but if we can have experienced players that would be so much better.”

Queen’s Park have been drawn away to Raith Rovers in the 1st round of the Scottish League Cup. The game will be played at Kirkcaldy on Saturday August 3.
