Queen’s Baton Relay 2014 tours Clydesdale Slidehsow

More than 40 local people took turns to carry the baton through the streets. David Rattray from Braehead, who won Commonwealth shooting medals in Canada in 1994 and Malaysia in 1998, carried it from Lanark Loch out on to the streets of the town.

“I feel quite honoured to be among other baton bearers who have given 40 years of their life for sport for others,” he said.

In Carluke, thousands gathered at the John Cumming Stadium to welcome the baton. Coalburn IOR Pipe Band and Celia Orr dancers provided entertainment and there was face-painting and a bouncy castle as well as the chance to try out sports in “taster” sessions.

Boxer Jack Nicholas (15), who carried the baton into the stadium, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I was very proud to be chosen to carry the baton in my home town.”

The baton was then taken through Carluke and on to Law, where Scott Cunningham and Guide Dog Milo delivered it to Law Primary.

“I feel humbled and privileged to be able to take part in this momentous occasion,” Scott said.
