Emirates Scottish Junior Cup 4th Round

Rob Roy strolled into the fifth round of the Scottish Junior Cup with a convincing five-goal victory over East Region opponents Rosyth FC.

Rabs attacked from the start, with Diack bringing out a good save from Rosyth keeper Brown. The keeper was again in action minutes later, diving low to prevent Meechan from opening the scoring for Rabs.

The visitors defended well in the opening period, however, the home side broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when full-back McVey broke down the left flank before sending over a perfect cross for Easton to net easily.

A minute later Rabs doubled their advantage when McAleenan took advantage of a defensive error to send the ball to Hunter in front of goal for a simple tap-in.

Rob Roy kept up their relentless pressure and were unlucky to see a goal-bound shot cleared off the line following a goalmouth scramble. On the half-hour mark Rabs increased their lead to three and effectively killed the game off as a contest with Bradley’s clever chip into the Rosyth net.

It took Rosyth 37 minutes before they made a serious attempt at goal with Hampson firing wide. Two minutes before the break the Rosyth winger should have put his side on the score-sheet, but hesitated in front of goal – allowing home keeper Robertson the opportunity to push his belated shot wide for a corner.

On the half-time whistle Rabs made it number four when the impressive McVey sent over a perfect cross deep into the Rosyth goalmouth and, with the defence posted missing, McAleenan slid in to push the ball home.

Rabs began the second half as the first one ended – very much in command. Smith headed over before Hunter rattled the upright.

Rabs increased their tally to five when Jason Crooks lobbed over Brown for a debut goal for the recent signing from Albion Rovers.

Rosyth made a number of raids on the home goal, but their attack lacked a cutting edge, giving the home defence an easy afternoon.

The Fifers were reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute when skipper Griffin picked up a second yellow card for a wild lunge on Bradley and was sent packing by Referee Napier. In the final minutes Rosyth shot-stopper Brown kept the scoreline respectable by making smart saves from Crooks and Bradley.

Rabs now await the winners of the Bo’ness United and Dundee Violet replay for an Adamslie Park fifth round tie.
