Recordbreaking mama does it again — 3 times

Powerlifter Lisa Tobias is blazing a trail towards lifting the world cup later this year on only her third competitive outing since taking up the sport just a few months ago.

Having unofficially smashed the world record for combined lifts at her first outing to become the Scottish Champion, the mum-of-three who runs a chain of nine pizza franchises returned triumphant from the European single lift championships in Ireland at the weekend where she broke the world deadlift record in her weight category with a lift of 120kilos in her first lift of the day. She went on to break her own new record in her second and third lifts of 130k and 140k. And was named Best Powerlifter of the contest over all weight categories in men and women’s lifts.

Coach Gordon Hill reckons the 30-year-old former gymnast champion will make it with ease, saying: “She had plenty left in the tank after her final lift. I’m confident.”

Lisa said: “I’m over the moon being crowned European champion. My focus now is on the world championships.”
