Records broken at the double at Jack Crawford Races

The annual Jack Crawford Races organised by Springburn Harriers took place on a course starting and finishing at the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs recently.

First male over the finishing line was Tewolde Menigisteab of Shettleston Harriers in a record time of 30 minutes 31 seconds and the first female was Fiona Matheson of Falkirk Victoria in another record time of 37:12.

Kirkintilloch Olympians triumphed with both the male and female teams winning the team prizes with 58 points and 201 points respectively.

Veterans’ prizes winners were - 40+, male Chris Greenhalgh (Giffnock North AAC), female Marlene Hunter (Springburn Harriers); 50+, male James Gallacher (Kirkintilloch Olympians), female Pamela McCrossan (Clydesdale Harriers); 60+, male Alexander Chisholm (Garscube Harriers).

Prize were presented to race winners by Jack Crawford junior, son of Jack Crawford, and his daughter Anne with the assistance of Rachel Wilson of Springburn Harriers.

As well as the senior event the annual raes now include a 1.5km Junior Jack Race for P5 – P7 age group, a 3km Junior Jack Race for S1–S3 age group and the Jack Crawford 10km Race for senior and vet runners.

First boy home in the Junior Jack 1.5k was Rory Elliott of Kirkintilloch Olympians in a time of 5:42 with Sophie Sinclair the first girl to finish in a time of 5:52.

Prizes were presented to the first three male and female runners by Barbara Knox and her son Douglas, Jack’s great grandson.

Jack was a member of the club for 65 years, joining in 1922 and remaining in membership until his death in 1987.

He lived for the club and held almost every principle office,
