Robert Irving bemoans Lesmahagow loss to Carluke Rovers

Robert had pinpointed Carluke goalscorers Mark Weir and Ian Watt as dangermen but both struck to hand ’Gow their first league defeat.

He said: “There is a saying in football – you can tell who a good player is because you only need to tell him once.

“But it looked as if my lads didn’t listen.”

However the mood was very different in the Rovers camp with club chairman Malky Black stating: “It is a massive result for us.

“Everybody has been working hard but this win has been a long time coming.”

Elsewhere Lanark United continued their good form beating St Anthony’s 4-1 and new Forth manager Jamie McKenzie got off to a losing start as his side were beaten 3-2 by Cambulang Rangers.

And there was little to cheer for our rugby sides as Biggar lost 29-19 to GHA and Lanark lost 14-7 to Cumnock.
