Rocks reach BBL cup final

Rocks will need to be eagle-eyed and on the ball when they face their Newcastle rivals in the cup final this weekend.

This Sunday, Glasgow Rocks take on the Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Cup Final at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. Their journey to the final was a thriller.

An impressive display form the team saw the team dispatch the London Lions in the first round of the competition in October, last year, defeating the capital side 62-56 at the Emirates.

The next round of the competition, Rocks beat the Leicester Riders, a phenomenal 3-point buzzer beater from Kieron Achara saw the team advance to the semi-finals by a single point, knocking out the defending champions – final scoreline 85-84.

In round three, they faced the Bristol Flyers over two legs. In the first round, the team got caught in the air traffic control failure and arrived two hours late for the game in Bristol. Despite the delay, the team brought home a two-point advantage. In front of a vocal home-support, the team clinically dispatched the Flyers 84-57 in the second leg, securing their place in the final with a 161-132 aggregate score-line.

Sterling feels the tough journey will give the team more motivation:

“I thought we had somewhat of a difficult journey to get here. I think we definitely deserve a place in the final based on the teams we played and the path we took. I think that’s even more motivation for us to finish it off.”

There’s still time to buy match tickets, in the Rocks section of the website, and a seat on the supporters coach. This will be the Rocks first cup final appearance since 2007 so they’ll need all the support they can get as visitors.
