ROSSVALE FC 4

JOHNSTONE BURGH 1

On a wet, windswept Petershill Park on Saturday, Rossvale took another step towards winning the title with a determined win over Johnstone Burgh, who although ‘Vale had already taken five off earlier this year, are the only team who can now catch them in the run in with the amount of games they have still to play.

However, ‘Vale are only one win away from clinching the title and hope to do it at home on Saturday against Vale of Leven.

The first half wasn’t much of an event with several Rossvale chances going amiss.

In the 16th minute, straight from a Burgh free kick, Gamba played a long ball down the right wing to Cassells to run onto and shoot, but his shot just went wide of post.

With the weather getting worse, ‘Vale won a corner in 30th minute which was taken by Team. His long ball to the back post found Misanjo, but he could only knock it past for a goal-kick.

Two minutes later Chris McQuade stung the keeper’s hands with a drive from 25 yards as ‘Vale tried to step up their game.

Right on half time ‘Vale nearly took the lead with a stramash in the Burgh area with several shots being fired in and the ball bouncing about not being cleared.

Then McQuade tried another shot from about 20 yards which narrowly sneaked over the crossbar to bring a first half to a close.

‘Vale kicked off the second half and went straight into attack. Within a minute they were one-up, when Team was pulled down in the box after a good bit of football between several players and McQuade stepped up in the abscence of Winters to calmly slot the ball into the corner of the net.

Misanjo was next to test Burgh when his speed took him past their defence and with two players in the middle waiting for his pass he decided to shoot and it came off the post and out for a bye-kick.

A minute later Misanjo outstripped the defence, then the ‘keeper and with an empty net somehow blasted the ball over.

Next it was Team’s chance when he burst through on goal, but the Burgh keeper came off his line and saved at his feet.

‘Vale made a change on the 56th minute mark when Gamba went off and McLuskey came on.

I was now becoming all ‘Vale as attack after attack was reigning in on the Burgh goal, but they just couldn’t get that second goal.

It was down to captain Hepburn to add to ‘Vale’s goals tally when he popped up at the back post in the 80th minute to turn the ball into the net and make it 2-0.

Burgh pulled a goal back from a corner a couple of minutes later, but it didn’t last long as a long ball out of defence found Team bursting through onto an advancing keeper and he headed the ball over him into the empty net to make it 3-1.

Then almost on the final whistle and from a similar move, McQuade found Cassells with a long ball and he also headed past the advancing keeper to make the final score 4-0, with a much deserved winner from a young lad with a big future.
