GHA seeking home comforts

The Southsiders will look to bounce back after a 48-17 defeat away to Dundee HSFP last weekend.

Despite the defeat GHA will be encouraged with their first half display which saw them go in level at 10 all before fading in the second half.

However they will face a stern test against Kelso who ended Watsonians perfect start to the season with a 32-31 victory at Poynder Park last time out.

GHA Head Coach Gordon MacPherson is hoping they can improve and cut out basic errors.

He said: “Kelso are proving to be one of the best teams in the league. It will be a tough encounter there is no doubt about that.

“Obviously we will look to win the game and play with a little bit more aggression than we did in the second half last week.

“Make our tackles, not make the same basic errors and try not to give away the soft tries we did last Saturday.”

Despite an encouraging first half display last weekend GHA were unable to sustain it.

And Head Coach Gordon MacPherson admits the National League is proving tougher than expected.

He said: “We need to improve and show consistence which is proving quite difficult and the league is proving more difficult than the guys and a lot of people thought.

“It will be another challenge and we need to remain positive, keep working hard and just keep looking to improve.

“We have a lot of work to do there is no hiding that fact.”

On the positive side GHA were able to welcome former captain Niall Cassie back into the first team after a lengthy injury layoff.

He came back with a bang and managed to score one of GHA’s two tries against Dundee HSFP last Saturday.

GHA head coach Gordon MacPherson is delighted to have him back.

He said: “Niall has a great attitude, good communicator, enthusiastic, aggressive and he is a leader.

“I was pleased for him to come through 60 minutes in a reasonable physical game and I am sure he would have been delighted just to get through the game.

“He didn’t just get through the game but he played some good stuff.

“It was pleasing especially after the injuries that he has gone through in the last couple of years.”
