The home side continued their recent good form against a Cumbernauld team who worked hard in defence but struggled to impose their game plan on the day.

Lenzie opened the scoring from a well taken McKenzie line out that released captain Letford to burst over the line from 10 metres out for an unconverted try.

They continued to enjoy territory and possession advantage in the first half; however their next score wasn’t until on the half-time whistle when Gavin Brett touched down from a pushover scrum.

Donald Brodie missed the conversion from under the posts, which signalled the end of his game.

Cumbernauld had the better of the first 15 minutes of the second period but failed to breakdown a solid home defence and when Nisbet broke out of defence to score from 80 metres out the visitors realised the game was lost.

Lenzie scored further tries from Nisbet, McAllister and Alex with Cruickshanks kicking the rest of the points.

Best for Lenzie were Brett, Williams, Sutherland and McWilliams with young Hamish McAllister being awarded man of the match.

Although leaders Paisley and third-placed Cumnock have games in hand, two excellent home wins have propelled Lenzie up the league with all to play for in the remaining seven league games.

There are no games next week due to the Scotland v England game.

Allan Glen’s

Allan Glen’s maintained their 100 per cent record in West Division 1 with a 55-12 victory over Cambuslang at The Bearyards.

The game was a bit one-sided, especially in the first half where Glen’s virtually scored at will.

Russell opened the scoring when Glen’s manufactured an overlap after several repulsed attacks on the visitors’ line.

Adams scored from a break by Russell and then Ekevati barged over from a slick pass by Thomson.

Glen’s moved further ahead when Ekevati scored again from a break down the middle by Thomson.

Ekevati was having a field day and scored a third try when he ran from the visitors’ 22 line, breaking several tackles en route.

The first-half scoring was completed by McKinstry when he linked up with Low and Ekevati. Thomson kicked three of the six conversion opportunities making the interval score 36-0.

Immediately after the restart it looked as if the game would continue in the same vein when Russell intercepted a stray Cambuslang pass on his own line and sprinted unchallenged the length of the pitch to score.

However, at this point the visitors seemed to rally and McGlane charged over from stolen possession. G Jones converted.

Glen’s added another score when Thomson chipped the ball over the opposition’s heads and won the race to the line.

Close to time C Jones scored for the visitors but the afternoon’s scoring was complete when Thomson intercepted a Cambuslang pass and slipped the ball to the fleet of foot Russell.

Glen’s remain two points behind leaders Carrick, with a game in hand, and face the Ayrshire side in two weeks’ time in a contest which is likely to settle the division top spot.
