Biggar Rugby Club hope their long running wait to find out if an appeal against the SRU’s null and voiding of their title winning season has been successful will at last be decided upon definitively next month.

In a saga which has lasted all summer, Biggar have gathered the support of over 30 clubs to trigger a Special General Meeting with the governing body, allowing them to try and overturn a decision which is denying them promotion to Scotland’s top flight.

The 2019-20 Tennent’s National Division 1 winners’ club secretary Mike Booth told the Carluke and Lanark Gazette: “I am due a phonecall this week from Robert Howat at the SRU and we’ll discuss it again.

“It was brought up at the SRU AGM part one (by video call on Saturday).

“But they did say they still didn’t have a date.

“I guess they’re going to be stuck until stage four (of lockdown easing) until they can get that many people in one place.”

Saturday’s virtual meeting saw Lasswade member Ian Barr elected to the position of president.

Although the date for a decision on Biggar’s appeal remains unclear, Mike is hopeful it will be done by the end of September.
