Rugby club launch scheme to take sport into schools and community

Cumbernauld Rugby Club has agreed a new sponsorship deal which will allow them to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport.

The club has reached agreement with Reigart Contracts Ltd, one of its principal sponsors, to use part of the funding for a community coach to work with local schools.

Callum Scotland, one of Cumbernauld’s fine young players, has been appointed with the primary aim of increasing the player base at mini and youth level.

Club president Jim Cochrane said: “We are delighted with the level of sponsorship we receive from Reigart Demolition every year and will use the funding to get Callum into as many local schools as possible.

“Callum will be running after-school rugby sessions in the local secondaries as well as half-day sessions in the local primaries.

“He will tie up with St Maurice’s School of Rugby and hopefully help to enhance the existing provision of rugby coaching in our area. The bottom line, of course, is to increase player participation, boys and girls, in our club as well as providing a valuable community resource.”
