Runaway league leaders too strong for Lenzie

But while Accies played very well and were certainly the better side, the game was much closer than the scoreline indicates as Lenzie made a significant contribution to this contest, especially by their forwards.

The game started badly for Lenzie when Accies scored from the kick-off.

Lenzie regrouped and spent the next 15 minutes in their opponents’ 22, spurning several penalty kicking opportunities as they went for the try.

But great defence by Accies kept Lenzie out and they broke away to score another converted try after 20 minutes.

This set the pattern of the game for the rest of the match as Lenzie achieved territorial advantage and Accies’ excellent handling, speed and defence won the day by a good margin.

Best for Lenzie were Letford, Williams, McKenzie, McCrae, Arnott and Brett with Kirk Flett named as man of the match on his debut for Lenzie.

Lenzie remain in fifth place in this very competitive league and have a  rest next week as the Six Nations begins. Their next match is away to Newton Stewart on Saturday, February 13.

Allan Glens’ home match with Kilmarnock on Saturday was postponed.
