Seven up for Ibrox

SOME of the southside’s best young rugby players will have a chance to showcase their skills in front of a sell-out crowd at Ibrox this summer.

GHA’s u18 sevens squad will play in front of 45,000 spectators, during Glasgow 2014 after they reached the final of the Emirates 7s at Scotstoun last Saturday.

They eventually lost out to Dundee High School 12 – 5 in a tense final played on the main pitch in front of 10,000 fans.

The final was closely matched and after a nervy start the deadlock was broken by GHA scrum half Euan McKirdy, who broke through the Dundee defence and ran clear to score. In the second half Dundee upped the pace and ran in two unanswered tries, converting one, to finish 12 – 5 winners.

On their way to the final, the youngsters passed through pre-tournament favourites George Watsons, Dumfries, and Dollar.

GHA now have their own Braidholm u18 7’s tournament to look forward to on Friday May 23 before starting preparations for a rematch against Dundee High School at Ibrox in July.

In the Legacy sevens series, the GHA senior side reached the final of the Howe of Fife sevens, defeating Glasgow Accies, Hawks and Boroughmuir before losing in the final to home team Howe of Fife. Cartha, Whitecraigs and GHA are all in action at the Hamilton 7s on Saturday.
