For Michelle boosted her 2013 campaign by winning silver in the girls’ +70kg category in Sheffield.

The 17-year-old won three of her four matches in the round-robin format; she only lost to eventual gold medallist Isadora Pereira, one of a Brazilian contingent who were invited to Sheffield in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“It feels really good, to be honest, even though it’s not gold,” said Michelle. “It’s still a medal and that is what you want to try and go home with. I wanted to win gold but unfortunately you can’t win all the time.”
