Spider back on form

QUEEN’S PARK returned to winning ways last weekend, (writes Kenny Crawford), by thrashing bottom-placed East Stirlingshire 5-1.

Goals from Jamie Longworth, Tony Quinn (2), Sean Burns and Martin McBride confirmed the Spiders’ place in the end of season play-offs.

Quinn, in a rare start, bagged his double just one week after celebrating ten years at the Hampden club.

Queen’s now sit in third position with four games left to play, a point behind second-placed Stranraer, who faltered on Saturday by losing to Clyde.

The Blues host Queen’s later this month – a match that could go a long way in deciding who will finish runners up to league winners Alloa.

This weekend, however, Gardner Speirs’ men must make the trip to Montrose, a team who have only put one goal past Queen’s this season.

Indeed, the Spiders have won three out of three against the Gable Endies in 2011/12, most recently at the end of February when a late Longworth goal was the difference between the sides at Links Park.

Second-bottom Montrose, managed by ex-Partick Thistle midfielder Ray Farningham, go into this game having been beaten 2-1 by Peterhead last weekend.

Queen’s Park’s next home game is against Annan Athletic on April 21.
