Strong start

ALMOST 100 children took part in the Easter tennis camp at Whitecraigs Lawn Tennis and Sports Club.

The Easter camps provide children with the opportunity to try tennis at the club and benefit from the experience of Lawn Tennis Association performance coaches.

Jon Pankhurst, the new head tennis coach at Whitecraigs, said: “This has been the first intensive camp that I’ve been involved with since starting at Whitecraigs and what a fantastic couple of weeks we’ve had.

“The sun has shone and the kids have been brilliant.

“For some of them, it’s been their first experience on a tennis court, so we tried to make it as much fun possible whilst developing their tennis skills.

“We’ve seen a few budding Andy Murrays and Laura Robsons these last weeks, so hopefully we’ll get them all back down to Whitecraigs over the summer season.”

Kerri Halpin (7), from Newton Mearns, said: “It was brilliant. I love playing football and didn’t know if I’d like this as much: but I loved all the games we played and I met new friends — the coaches made it so much fun.”

Whitecraigs Tennis Club, situated on Roddinghead Road, is open to new members — phone Hazel on 639 1478 for details.
