An impressive line-up of 70 competitors will gather at a gym in Motherwell next month for the revived Scottish Truck Pulling Championships.

But the event at the Hostile Strength and Conditioning gym will also mark the start of a campaign by gym owner Martin Lennox to try to raise £10,000 for a hydrotherapy pool for Mason Eadie.

Mason has cerebral palsy and is quadraplegic and partially blind. His father Jason was a colleague of Martin’s in the Army.

Martin said: “I was in the Scots Guards with Jason and he has helped me out by supporting charity events I have had in the past so I thought I could do something for him in return.

“Mason is a regular at our events and it’s heart touching to see what he goes through.

“I wanted to raise money for one person rather than for a general charity and every single penny will go towards the fund which will be set up.

“This event is the first of many fundraisers being held throughout the year, with many of our old Army colleagues doing fun runs or getting chest waxes. I’ve got folk doing the West Highland Way and sponsored cycles and all sorts of things.

“Mason’s body is constantly tensed up, so going in a hydrotherapy pool will help him greatly.”

The championships - featuring the awesome sight of musclebound strongmen trying to drag a 25-ton truck 30 metres as quickly as possible - will take place in Flemington Industrial Estate on Saturday, May 7, from 11am.

The impressive line-up of over 70 competitors will include Jeremy Vickers, Scotland’s Strongest Man under-90kg winner in each of the past four years.

He’ll be joined by Lanarkshire’s strongest man Dhanni Moar, Mark Hunter – who represented Scotland at the UK’s Strongest Man – and Kenny Sim, who has just returned from America where he was starring for the UK at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic.

The event – which Martin is reviving for the first time in 13 years – will see three male categories (under-90kg, under-105kg and over-105kg) and one female class. All are welcome.
