Swimmer Zoe makes a splash at Scottish

Super swimmer Zoe '¨McDonald put in a stunning performance when she '¨competed at recent Scottish Schools Championships.

As well as clinching a gold medal, the 15-year-old’s time of 1min 13.56secs 
in the 100m breaststroke qualifies her to compete in 
Olympic trials.

The Boclair Academy 
pupil joined fellow talented young East Dunbartonshire swimmers at the contest at Tollcross International Swim Centre. They clinched an impressive nine gold and four silver 
medals between them.

Councillor Anne Jarvis, Chair of the EDLC Trust said: “To pick up 13 medals in such a competitive arena is a wonderful achievement.

“Zoe performed brilliantly. To be able to now compete on an international stage is 
fantastic news for her. “

A record 18 schools took part in the original East Dunbartonshire heats, organised by the Trust’s Swimming Development team and supported by volunteers at Milngavie and Bearsden, Scotia, Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth swimming clubs.

As well as taking gold in the under 12s 50m freestyle, 
Scotia swimmer Ruairi McKinnon also won the boys’ best individual performance at the championships.
