Swimmers make a splash

THE annual North Lanarkshire School Swimming Championships took place recently.

The event, at the Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre in Bellshill, featured almost 300 young swimmers from 86 schools. Many personal bests were recorded with several swimmers also qualifying for the finals of the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships, to be held in January in East Kilbride.

North Lanarkshire Leisure chairman Jim Logue said: “The number of swimmers continues to increase, as did the number of schools represented. I’m convinced that the increase is down to the quality of NLL’s learn to swim programme, the school swimming programme and the local clubs all working together for the benefit of young people.”
